Edinburgh may be spoilt for choice for landscape photography, particularly given its 7 Hills forming a host of perfect vantage points, of which Carlton Hill is one. This is one of any number of stunning views of Edinburgh Castle and the spire of the former St John’s Church (originally Victoria Hall), shot from the western aspect of Carton Hill.
From Carlton Hill and those like it around Edinburgh, there are endless options to find magic sunsets and compositions of the city’s landmarks, whatever the time year and the direction of the dipping sun. A feature that makes the city pretty special for photography.
The composition of the final photo here, is set off by the January sunset that provides a dramatic, golden backdrop to the Castle’s silhouette.
